Company Overview
teachNOLA Teaching Fellows seeks the nation's most outstanding mid-career professionals and recent college graduates to significantly impact education by teaching in New Orleans public schools. This highly-selective initiative recruits talented individuals with an intense desire to drive the city's rebirth by boosting academic achievement for all students.
This is a critical time for New Orleans and a potential watershed moment for public education in the United States. The reconfiguration of the city's schools following Hurricane Katrina provides a historic opportunity to transform one of the nation's lowest performing school systems. That transformation will not be possible, however, without a cohort of accomplished, goal-oriented individuals like you. As a teachNOLA Teaching Fellow, you will draw on your experience and record of achievement to improve the lives of the city's neediest students. Teaching Fellows are part of a powerful network of committed education leaders working in one of the most exciting environments for urban education reform. Who We Want We want people who are driven to succeed and persevere despite challenges. We want people who have excelled as students and in their careers. We want people compelled to do something that matters for the city and students of New Orleans. There is no one profile for an ideal teachNOLA candidate. Fellows can be fresh out of college or closing out their first career. They could be veterans of the non-profit world or battle-tested in the private sector. Strong candidates are high-achievers who are committed to boosting student achievement and doing whatever it takes to reach and influence the city’s neediest students on a daily basis. Successful candidates must also want to teach in a high-need school in post-Katrina New Orleans starting in January of 2009 (Mid-Year Program) or the summer of 2009 (Summer Program). Candidates should be ready to embrace the full range of challenges and opportunities that come with rebuilding a city. While we are looking for candidates to teach all subjects and grade levels, we are particularly interested in candidates who want to teach in critical shortage subject areas. Successful candidates can have an especially significant impact by teaching math, science, special education or foreign languages. If you have what it takes to increase student achievement in these subjects, we strongly encourage you to apply now. |
