PIPE FITTER - TEMPORARY POSITION

Pipe Fitters will work to build the pipelines for the propulsion systems for Starship and Super Heavy vehicles at the SpaceX South Texas build site. The pipe fitter will work with an elite team of other pipe fitters, technicians and welders to rapidly build the propulsion systems for the flight article design for both vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the area lead to ensure the proper call out, material and sizing are accurately assessed for each project
  • Analyze drawings and specification to plan fitter operations/steps where procedural information might not be available
  • Make a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly
  • Fitting of all sizes and piping on various small and large assemblies
  • Effectively communicate with management/supervisor, engineering staff and planners to achieve build efficiency
  • Modify, repair, assemble, and install rocket and spacecraft components
  • Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure is complete and correct per drawing
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner
  • Install and assemble custom and off-the-shelf tooling and machinery for building the propulsion systems for Starship and Super Heavy spacecraft
  • Operate shop equipment as needed and required (forklift, boom lifts, scissor lifts, etc.)

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a temporary position with SpaceX, for the length of time as stated, and is subject to change with minimal notice as business needs dictate.

  • LENGTH OF POSITION: 6 months
  • LOCATION: Brownsville, TX
  • SHIFT: Day shift (6 AM - 6 PM); alternative work schedule: 3 days on, 4 days off, then 4 days on, 3 days off

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience with fitting stainless pipe

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) certification as an industrial pipe fitter
  • 5+ years of experience with fitting stainless pipe, 2", 3", 6", 10"
  • Proficient in the use of bevelers, threaders and other end prep machines
  • Working knowledge of pipe-fitting techniques and methods
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This role requires working 6 AM - 6 PM, 3 days on, 4 days off, then 4 days on, 3 days off
  • Ability to pass the pipe fitter test; written and hands on this will be performed on site
  • Ability to work multiple shifts and change shifts with minimal notice
  • Ability to stand for extended periods - 8 hours minimum
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25 lbs.) unassisted
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (up to and could exceed 100')
  • Potential to be exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors and noise
