We are a leading provider of full-service staffing and management programs for the K-12 educational market. We are currently seeking a payroll specialist to service employees in 34 states. This position is in our Corporate Headquarters in Knoxville, TN. We currently offer a hybrid schedule following a 90-day training period.

The Payroll Specialist would assist in the weekly processing of payroll for employees in 34 states. You will work with qualified professionals to troubleshoot payroll issues such as incorrect pay rates, assignment changes, and pay code discrepancies. The right candidate will find joy in providing excellent customer service to all staff members and substitutes by addressing concerns on a timely basis. You will work closely with managers and operational team members to improve communication regarding the payroll experience. This role requires moderate computer and research skills.

Pay rate will vary based on experience. Range $44K - 47K, Signing Bonus after 90 days of Employment

Responsibilities

  • Assist employees with direct deposit issues and pay card registration
  • Identify and communicate payroll issues to managers
  • Research payroll transactions
  • Maintain employee confidentiality
  • Partner with other Payroll Specialists to manage the payroll inbox
  • Create reports for department heads on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Perform other miscellaneous tasks provided by the Payroll Manager
  • Adhere to strict payroll deadlines
  • Works with PEO, Paychex payroll department to process weekly payroll

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 1-2 years of experience in payroll
  • Associate degree in business, finance or accounting preferred (or significant related experience)
  • Possess working knowledge of payroll processes and state laws and requirements
  • Proficiency in PC applications including, Outlook email, MS Word, Excel (including pivot tables and V-Look Up functions) and payroll software programs
  • Strong customer service/interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to learn additional software quickly
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in a high paced, professional environment
  • Strong research and analysis skills or problem-solving skills to develop reasonable resolutions
  • Collaborate with other team members as well as work independently to meet strict deadlines and prioritize tasks
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and quality
