Job Description
Performs diagnostic imaging and magnetic resonance imaging examinations according to hospital/departmental policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine diagnostic imaging and magnetic resonance procedures. Reviews the patient s requisition for consistency of examination ordered with the clinical diagnosis and demographic information. Positively identifies patient and obtains written consent form from the person legally responsible for the patient before beginning exam. Explains the procedure to patient/parent before beginning exam. Prepares, positions, and monitors the patient throughout the procedure. Initiates venipuncture for administration of contrast media. Prepares and administers oral and intravenous contrast before and during exam as specified by radiologist. Identifies, processes and checks images/films for quality and selects images to be sent to the PACS and/or filmed. Archives images and sends to PACS immediately upon completion of scan. Completes procedure in RIS system.
  • Maintains equipment, room and supplies in assigned area. Performs quality control procedures daily and as assigned. Performs routine inventory of supplies and replaces as necessary. Maintains a clean work area. Notifies proper personnel in the event of equipment malfunction.
  • Follows and contributes to quality assurance procedures and programs. Identifies and reports potential problems. Collects data and submits reports when requested. Serves as representative on quality assurance committee when requested.
  • Collaborates with support personnel. Communicates with schedulers and clinic personnel concerning scheduling NPO times etc. Communicates with radiologists and attending physicians. Coordinates with nursing staff concerning sedations.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills (competencies) necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit. Demonstrates ability to assess and interpret age-specific data about the patients status. Identifies the patient's age-specific needs. Provides age-appropriate care for all ages served. Serves the following age groups: Infants (birth-1 year), Toddlers (1-2 years), Preschoolers (3-5 years), School-age (6-11 years), Adolescent (12-20 years), Young Adult (21-30 years).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology required.

Minimum Experience:

  • One year of imaging experience required, X-Ray, CT or MRI.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • None

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

  • Must obtain MRI specialty registration (R or MR) from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within 12 months of start date.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $29.00 - $50.50 per hour for the role of MRI Technologist.
