Job Description

Position Summary: The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor position will provide leadership at the building laboratory level. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will perform many of the same tasks as the Laboratory Chemist with the added responsibility of directing the day to day activities in the laboratory. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will also provide the immediate interface with the production team in the area for establishing priorities and scheduling of work through the laboratory. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining the tracking data for the laboratory that they have responsibility for.

Essential Accountabilities:

Safety Function
Perform all laboratory duties following appropriate work instructions and procedures. Bring safety issues to the attention of the Laboratory Manager. Responsible for safely operating equipment/instrumentation required for the laboratory to function. Oversee the general laboratory operation and insure that operations in the laboratory are done under a safe manner.

Quality Function
Provide accurate laboratory analysis following appropriate procedures. Provide a review of the data output from the laboratory. Process data required for SQC and CoA preparation under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. Apprise laboratory manager of opportunities for improvement in the laboratory.

Productivity Function
Communicate with production personnel and Laboratory Manger to provide timely analysis, aid in the production of quality material, and improve throughput. Meet minimum analysis requirements. Maintain schedule for completion of analysis. Provide the direct interface for production to meet schedule requirements. Provide a resource for production to address any analytical questions in regards to laboratory capability.

Training, Education and Experience Required

Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or other technical field required.

Detailed Description of Activities

The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will be expected to perform the tasks of the Chemist with the additional responsibility for supervising the work flow through the laboratory. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will maintain a safe work environment. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will complete all safety training in accordance with the schedule. The daily activities for the person in this position will be to stage and organize work flow through this laboratory. This will include both the direct analysis of sample cylinders through the laboratory and also the directing of the other chemists and laboratory technicians. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will ensure that the schedule for testing is meet for the analysis of cylinders in the laboratory. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will be required to safely handle cylinders in accordance with work instructions. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will be required to troubleshoot and maintain instruments in their respective laboratories. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will insure necessary spare parts are available for the continued operation of the laboratory.

The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for keeping the database up to date for tracking of cylinders through the laboratory. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for filling out and maintaining the laboratory notebooks for each analysis and overseeing that the other chemists in the laboratory are maintaining adequate records. As these are shared resources they must sign and date the notebooks. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for keeping the productivity logs for the laboratory that they are working in. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for staging work in this area on a daily basis to meet the minimum analysis requirements of the area so that cylinders move through in an efficient and timely manner. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for monitoring the productivity of the individual team members.

The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will be expected to maintain the instrumentation in the laboratory that they are responsible for. This will include troubleshooting instrumentation and when necessary scheduling maintenance of the instrumentation through the supplier. Up time of the laboratory is a key metric for the ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor to monitor and ensure that the laboratory has the appropriate back up for the instrumentation that is mission critical.

The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will work with production and other laboratory personnel to effectively move test cylinders through the laboratory. ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor must meet commitments for delivery dates. Once a schedule is in place it is the responsibility of the ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor to get that analysis completed. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will effectively communicate this schedule to the Facility Laboratory Manager for communication to our internal and external customers. The ICPMS Metal Laboratory Supervisor will provide the hands on training for new hires in the laboratory.
