Job Summary

The Manager Procurement will have oversight of all materials procurement functions, and is ultimately responsible and accountable for establishing raw material cost standards, reducing costs, and achieving and maintaining inventory accuracy. He/she will establish baseline metrics from which to measure process improvement and will make recommendations for long term sourcing.

Key Duties

Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:

PROCUREMENT

    Oversee and manage a company-wide process that results in establishing and meeting cost savings goals, and spearhead negotiations to reduce raw material costs and the implementation of other cost control measures.
  • Oversee the coordination of materials procurement that meets production requirements, while maximizing customer service levels and minimizing inventory levels and waste.
  • Provide hands-on management of vendor relationships associated with certain raw material needs, and hands-on oversight of all individuals associated with materials procurement.
  • Create an integrated, effective, and accountable procurement process that is executed in compliance with MLS Quality System requirements.
  • Create performance metrics and standards for all aspects of purchasing and implement supplier improvement initiatives where necessary.
  • Oversee vendor relationships to ensure optimal costs, quality, safety, yield, timeliness and identify other opportunities to maximize value from the company's vendor relationships.
  • Work in a team environment between the functions of Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Finance, and other departments, and interact regularly with senior management regarding goals and accomplishments.
  • Research and develop alternate vendor sources as needed.
  • Establish and review purchasing contracts and oversee competitive bidding processes where necessary.
  • Training and Supervising of the Procurement Specialist and Buyer.
  • Planning, monitoring and control of materials to support production requirements.
  • Manage third party transactions and inbound shipments of materials to ensure optimal logistics flow and customs clearance for imported materials.
  • Development and enforcement of approved procurement policies and procedures.
  • Maintenance of SDS files.
  • Vendor discrepancy reporting.

Materials Planning & Inventory Management

  • Oversee the accounting and disposition of obsolete, defective or rejected materials.
  • Schedule the requisition, release and issuance of materials to coordinate between Purchasing, Quality, Supply, Production and Sales to meet customer requirements
  • Employ project management skills to coordinate final material release through multiple departments.
  • Oversee cycle counting programs to ensure highest inventory accuracy possible.
  • Coordinate with production planning to establish and maintain appropriate inventory par levels and optimal materials management for raw materials, subassemblies and finished goods.
  • Maintain ERP system details for all materials and accurate pricing.

Team

  • Collaborate with human resources to create and implement succession plans for staff and advance cohesion between various internal departments.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of BS degree in business, finance, accounting, supply chain management or in a related area.
  • Minimum of 5 years of inventory management and purchasing experience with a strong systems approach.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience managing a team, and interactions in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Results focused individual with strong initiative and service orientation.
  • Excellent skills in establishing policies, procedures and controls.
  • Expert negotiation skills.Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with ERP system development and implementation a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Experience with contract review.
  • Must have strong analytic skills and be very detail oriented.
  • Required Travel: >5%
