Job Description
Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemical Biology and Biochemistry

The Dao laboratory at the Department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to conduct research at the interface of chemistry and chromatin biology. Our team is dedicated to understanding the intricate molecular networks that regulate epigenetic processes in developmental diseases and human cancers. We develop novel chemical probes, engineered enzymes, and synthetic chromatin platforms to dissect and manipulate chromatin-templated processes.

Interested candidates should have a Ph.D. in chemical biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology. Preference will be given to applicants who have received their Ph.D. degrees within three years. Your primary role as a postdoctoral researcher will be to develop independent research projects with the guidance of Dr. Hai Dao. You are expected to finish at least one project within three years. Additionally, you will have opportunities to get involved in collaborative projects within the institution. In addition to performing experiments, you will be expected to participate in writing your manuscripts and lab grants. As part of the career development plan, you are encouraged to participate in relevant conferences and training courses.

The Dao lab is well-equipped to enable hands-on training in:

  • Organic synthesis of chemical probes and bioactive molecules
  • Peptide synthesis
  • Protein semi-synthesis and bioconjugation
  • AlphaFold2-based protein design
  • Molecular cloning and protein expression
  • Protein, peptide purification, and analytics
  • Complex assembly and enzymatic reactions
  • Molecular biology and biophysical techniques
  • Mammalian cell culture
  • CRISPR-Cas9-based genome editing and genome targeting
  • Genomics (short-read and long-read sequencing)
  • Proteomics (SILAC and TMT-based quantitative proteomics)

A brief introduction to St. Jude and the Department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics (CBT):

Located in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is an NCI-designated, and home to the. The (CBT) Department plays a central role at the institution by formulating innovative chemical and chemoinformatic solutions to resolve salient problems in biology and medicine. Fundamental research programs to uncover underlying biological processes are complemented by translational centers that house chemical synthesis, screening, and computational capabilities that mirror cutting-edge biotech/pharma operations, resources rarely accessible at academic institutions. The St. Judeprovides tremendousfor professional and career development.
