Advanced Technologies & Lab International, Inc. (ATL) is hiring a Network Operations Specialist for a position at the Department of Energy (DOE) Y-12 plant which is a DOE and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) site in support of the Information Solutions & Services (ISS) and Cybersecurity Program (CSP).

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
  • Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

As a Network Operations Specialist at Y-12, you will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity, security, and efficiency of our network infrastructure. You will plan, implement, and operate network services/systems, to include hardware and virtual environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
    • Monitor network performance, identify anomalies, and promptly address issues to ensure uninterrupted operations.
    • Troubleshoot connectivity, latency, and bandwidth problems.
  • Network Infrastructure Management:
    • Maintain and optimize network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
    • Collaborate with system administrators to ensure seamless integration of network components.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce network security policies, ensuring compliance with DOE guidelines.
    • Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans.
  • Documentation and Diagramming:
    • Create and maintain accurate network diagrams using tools like Microsoft Visio.
    • Document network configurations, IP addresses, and VLAN assignments.
  • Cable Management and Tracing:
    • Trace and identify physical network cables, ensuring proper labeling and organization.
    • Collaborate with facilities and cabling teams to maintain a clean and efficient cable infrastructure.
  • Project Coordination:
    • Work closely with project managers and cross-functional teams to coordinate network-related projects.
    • Ensure timely completion of network upgrades, expansions, and migrations.
  • Network Walkdowns and Mapping:
    • Conduct physical walkdowns of network areas to verify cabling, equipment, and connections.
    • Create accurate maps of network layouts, including cable routes and patch panels.
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Years of Experience

  • Bachelors degree in a technical field with limited experience or
  • Associates degree in a technical field and 2 to 5 years of related experience or
  • Masters degree in a technical field with limited experience
  • Requires general knowledge and understanding in area of expertise and associated equipment, processes or systems.

Clearance

  • Active DOE Q Clearance: You must possess an active DOE Q clearance.

Required Experience

  • Cisco Networking Expertise: Proficiency in configuring and managing Cisco routers and switches.
  • Layer 1 Cable Infrastructure: Understanding of physical layer components, including cables, connectors, and patch panels.
  • Cable Tracing Skills: Ability to trace and identify network cables efficiently.
  • Network Diagramming: Experience using Microsoft Visio or similar tools to create clear network diagrams.
  • Project Management Experience: Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
  • Coordination Skills: Ability to coordinate efforts across multiple teams during network walkdowns and upgrades.
