Qualifications

Education and Experience: Education equivalent to High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years' experience in a role performing custodial services or a supervisory role.

Substitution of Experience for Education: One year of custodial or supervisory experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis

A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.

Summary

This classification supervises staff and performs custodial work of moderate difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the supervisor level classification in the TSP Custodial Worker series. An employee in this class may be assigned to work any shift in providing custodial services at facilities in Tennessee State Parks. This class supervises and trains TSP Custodial Workers on cleaning and custodial tasks. This class differs from that of TSP Park Custodial Lead in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for performing routine custodial services and leading a group of TSP Custodial staff.

Responsibilities

  1. Assigns, trains, supervises, and evaluates custodial staff performing custodial work. Assists subordinates with resolving conflicts and work problems. Conducts performance evaluations of employees. Interviews applicants and makes hiring recommendations. Makes recommendations on human resources actions such promotions, demotions, transfers, suspension, or retention
  2. Responsible for the training and leading of the custodial staff in a Tennessee State Parks business to ensure operations are clean. Instructs other employees on the proper use of safety apparel and gear, examples, appropriate shoes respirators, gloves, safety glasses, etc. Leads custodial by assigning work and overseeing custodial work being performed.
  3. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and buffs floors by hand or by machine
  4. Cleans restrooms by sanitizing showers, toilets, cleaning sinks, washing floors and walls, cleaning mirrors, and emptying trash.
  5. Cleans offices or other facilities by dusting furniture, vacuuming, and shampooing carpets, washing walls and windows, emptying trash, and straightening work areas.
  6. Cleans and stocks cabins and overnight facilities in an efficient manner by making beds, dusting furniture, vacuuming, emptying trash, and straightening areas.
  7. Periodically performs deep cleaning activities, including shampooing carpets, and washing walls and windows.
  8. Executes in-house laundry requirements for linens, cleaning rags, terry, and other cleaning tools as necessary and appropriate.
  9. Polices grounds to pick up trash and check for any other needed maintenance.
  10. Sets up tables and chairs for meetings and events. May be required to clear and reset room at end of event of all tables and chairs and properly returns them to storage.
  11. Operates and utilizes a variety of custodial related tools and equipment, including floor washing machines, buffers, and vacuums. May operate state issued pick-up truck, golf cart, or other vehicles.
  12. Ensures proper inventory, organization, and maintenance of cleaning supplies by stocking closets with housekeeping supplies. Maintains cleaning supplies inventory and ensures that cleaning chemicals are labeled in compliance with OSHA and TOSHA regulations. Bags, tags and turns in all lost and found items immediately according to policy. Ensures Cabins are properly stocked and meet expectations.
  13. May keep simple records and makes routine reports of facility deficiencies and materials needed to accomplish work. Completes routine reports of time expended and materials used. Maintains various records and reports such as biohazard reports, laundry and linen reports and other related reports.
  14. Inspects facilities and communicates maintenance workorder requests to the Park Maintenance Chief or the Custodial Supervisor.
  15. Promotes an environment of hospitality to provide great customer service and increase guest satisfaction through guest interaction, efficient communication, resolving disputes, and by addressing situations with guests promptly and professionally. Communicates with outside vendors and customers to provide basic customer service and direct persons to appropriate solutions and answers.
  16. Performs light maintenance of equipment utilized to ensure proper function of cleaning equipment and supplies.
