Operates, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to measure dimensions typically of automotive parts, inspection fixtures and machine jigs by performing the following duties:
  • Reads part prints to determine and tolerance specifications per Geometric Dimension & Tolerance (GD&T)
  • Programs CMMs to meet Type I and/or Type II requirements based on part print requirements and Quality Manager direction
  • Programs CMM in PC-DMIS
  • Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to TNOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, glasses, ear plugs, etc.)
  • Performs in-depth part layout using fixed or roving CMM
  • Performs in-depth part layout using 3d scanner
  • Performs Type I, Type II, and capability studies
  • Performs CMM calibration and other gauge calibrations as required (dimensional)
  • Performs hand tool calibration as required
  • Keeps calibrations current of all tools and gages (per gage tracking software)
  • Performs light CMM daily maintenance as directed by Quality Manager
  • Performs gauge R&R (repeatability and reproducibility) per AIAG guidelines
  • Compares recorded measurements to part print dimensions and tolerances and notifies specified persons of discrepancies per plant procedures
  • Capable of operating multiple machines simultaneously
  • Assists with PPAP submissions
  • Maintains a clean working environment required for CMM operation
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities
  • Assumes other duties as directed by supervisor
Requirements One-year certificate from college or technical school; or minimum 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrates understanding of PC-DMIS CMM programming language
  • Ability to manage out sourced CMM programs [Calypso or additional support for PC-DMIS]
  • In depth knowledge of AIAG requirements for MSA, SPS, Gage R&R.
  • In depth knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Certified to calibrate hand gages
  • Understands Part Print Reading
  • Understands CAD (Computer Aided Design)
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to understand, take direction and initiate tasks independently
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
