Job Description
Develops and oversees operating procedures for the research laboratories, providing supervision and directing technical staff in the laboratories. With the guidance of the Principal Investigator, develops and executes the scientific direction of the laboratory. Assists in the financial management process and budgetary planning for the department. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of research plan/strategy/approach, and oversee execution of projects/studies/processes within own area.
  • Oversee resource planning; monitor development, implementation, control, and reporting of scientific research studies in line with plans.
  • Actively lead execution by project teams including related data analysis, interpretation, and reporting; and drive timely planning, maintenance, and troubleshooting for equipment within area.
  • Collaborate with outside external partners, consultants, and vendors to improve research projects.
  • Scout emerging research and technology landscape related to own area to generate new research ideas and initiatives; present case for adoption within institution.
  • Set goals, give feedback, coach, and manage performance of team allocated to role.
  • Train and mentor others around new technologies related to basic science and research.
  • Assist in development of overall operational plans, resources, and budgets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Master's/PhD preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: 7+ years of technical experience in relevant technical field (industry or academia) with Bachelor's.
  • Experience Exception: 5+ years of technical experience in relevant technical field with Master's.
  • Experience Exception: 3+ years of technical experience in relevant technical field with PhD.
  • Experience managing at least 1-2 people preferred. *Extensive experience leading projects/processes end to end including resource planning and management, and communication and collaboration with internal cross-functional teams and external partners preferred.
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams preferred.
  • Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role.

Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Shows knowledge of application of regulatory and quality standards (e.g., cGMP, cGTP, FACT) and aligns any process or system change for compliance effectively.
  • Effectively monitors compliance with regulatory requirements, and identifies deviations.
  • Guides teams around quality standards and processes to ensure compliance.
  • Is building some breadth of awareness across different scientific/research disciplines/areas related to own area.
  • Understands cross-functional linkages of scientific/technical decisions.
  • Vendor Management Developing
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of vendor management processes and policies to engage with vendors for ongoing delivery.
  • Preferred experience in immunology, cancer biology, or animal research.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Manager - Lab Operations- Immunology.
