SUMMARY:

The Project Accountant works closely with subsidiary managers, project managers, contract administration staff and corporate accounting department to assist in analyzing project financial data; prepares project billings, assists in the proper coding of invoices for projects; provides project budget and comparison reports to managers. This position requires initiative, accuracy, diplomacy, discretion, personal judgment, professional appearance and conduct. Must be detail and process oriented, and have a high level of accounting skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Set-up projects and appropriate revenue and billing in system
  • Provide, "real time" project progress information
  • Prepare daily cash balance report
  • Work with managers to ensure revenue/billing adjustments are made in accordance with contract changes
  • Assist with monthly accruals
  • Reconcile bank reconciliations
  • Assist with daily cash activity
  • Prepare monthly advanced project billings
  • Monitor project cost, schedule and work accomplished progress; regularly prepare, distribute, analyze and summarize reports
  • Prepare documentation and communication for DCAA invoice audits
  • Assist with annual Incurred Cost Submission
  • Identify negative variances

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist with analyzing budget and progress information to maintain expenditure controls.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of data to detect deficient controls, duplicated effort, extravagance, fraud, or non-compliance with laws, regulations, and management policies.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Proven experience using Microsoft Excel and Word programs

PREFERRED:

  • Associates Degree in business, finance, accounting or similar field or equivalent education
  • Prefer two years project accounting, billing or related experience
  • Government contracting experience
  • Experience with Deltek/Costpoint software.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in general office equipment such as printers, photocopiers, fax machine, scanners and personal computers
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel skills; proficient or advanced skills utilizing Word programs
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and financial documents and reports
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for frequently bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with the opportunity to move about. Near visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone and keyboard; lift horizontally and vertically.

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.
